Walhalla Municipal Airport (96D) is in the process of completing an Airport Master Plan to evaluate the airport infrastructure and facilities, identify future needs and act as a guide for future development in order to ensure the Airport can meet existing and future operational demands and serve the community and surrounding area. The Airport Master Plan will be led by KLJ, working closely with the Airport Authority.
This study is being conducted in compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) guidelines and includes several key elements as follows:

As defined by the FAA, an Airport Master Plan (AMP) is a comprehensive study of an airport and usually describes the short-, medium- and long-term development plans necessary to meet future aviation demand. The AMP is intended to act as a road map for how the aviation demands of the community can be met into the future with sufficient flexibility to allow for each different element of aviation to flourish at the airport as much as possible without impeding other growth.
The last planning study for Walhalla Municipal Airport was conducted in 1996. Generally, it is recommended that a new study and Airport Layout Plan A(ALP) is drafted every ten years. The airport is overdue for a study to evaluate existing conditions and identify and prioritize needs for the future.
The FAA generally recommends that the Master Plan process include some level of public involvement. The formation of a Planning Advisory Committee (PAC) comprised of various community representatives, airport users, operators and the FAA and State helps to ensure that all viewpoints are considered throughout the planning process.
Public input and involvement are key components to the successful development of an Airport Master Plan study. This website allows for information from the planning study to be shared with the public and provides an opportunity for citizens and stakeholders to submit comments to the planning team and Walhalla Municipal Airport Authority.
