Trail design alternatives will be presented at an upcoming public open house: Thursday, April 3. Two sessions are planned:

11:00am - 1:00pm - formal presentation at 11:30am

4:00pm - 6:00pm - formal presentation at 4:30pm

The open house will be held at the Fond du Lac Tribal Community College in the amphitheater. The address is: 2101 14th Street, Cloquet, MN.

Project Purpose and Need: Why are we building this connection?

Provide Safe and Accessible Pathways: Aiming to offer safe travel routes for users of all ages and mobility levels, improving access for pedestrians and bicyclists.
Expand Recreational and Commuting Opportunities: Linking local communities to the 70-mile Willard Munger State Trail, stretching from Hinckley to Duluth, offering both recreational and commuting options.
Improve Infrastructure: Advance the schedule and re-design of the Moorhead Road Bridge replacement over I-35 to enhance road safety and accessibility.
Stimulate Economic and Educational Opportunities: Improving active transportation connections for community members supports local businesses, employers, and educational opportunities, including Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College, City of Cloquet, City of Carlton and the Black Bear Casino Resort.

About The Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa

The Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa is a sovereign Ojibwe nation and one of six bands of the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe. Nagaajiwanaang, “Where the Water Stops,” is the name of the homelands of the Fond du Lac Band at the time of the 1854 Treaty. We retained this name in Ojibwemowin for the present-day Fond du lac Reservation that was established under the 1854 La Pointe Treaty. There are three districts that make up the Fond du Lac Reservation: Bapashkominitigong (Cloquet), Gwaaba’iganing (Sawyer), and Ashkibwaakaaning (Brookston). Today, our Band includes over 4,000 members. We have always been, and continue to be, a proud sovereign Ojibwe nation. We uphold all of our rights retained and agreed to within the 1825, 1826, 1837, 1842, 1847, and 1854 Treaties.
